COURSE OVERVIEW

CHC43121 – Certificate IV in Disability Support reflects the role of individuals in a range of community settings and peoples’ homes, who provide support in a manner that empowers people with disabilities to achieve greater levels of independence, self-reliance, community participation and wellbeing. Workers promote a person-centred approach, work according to and may contribute to an individualised plan, and work without direct supervision. They may be required to supervise and/or coordinate a small team.

The skills in this qualification must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian standards and industry codes of practice.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Training package entry requirements:

  • completion of CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability); or CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability); or CHC30408 Certificate III in Disability plus the CHCSS00125 Entry to Certificate IV in Disability Support Skill Set

Everest Institute requirements for international students:

  • minimum age 18 at enrolment and Year 12 equivalent.
  • Have obtained an IELTS band score of 6.0 overall with no sub-score less than 5.0 or equivalent such as TOEFL (60), Cambridge English (169), PTE (51.6)
  • Have completed at least one-year study/training at Certificate IV level or above in Australia in English medium
  • Have completed any Certificate III or Certificate IV in ESL or EAL from the ESL/EAL Framework (VIC)
  • Have completed Year 12 as a minimum entry requirement to EI. (See Table – Assessment of Overseas Qualification for Australian Equivalence – Year 12)

COURSE DETAILS

This course includes workplace learning and assessment in disability-support-relevant settings. Placement settings should include community-based services, supported accommodation, day programs, people’s homes or other approved disability support environments that provide suitable opportunities to demonstrate the required skills and evidence. Placements are arranged or approved by Everest subject to site suitability, assessment requirements and availability. Students may need to complete mandatory checks required by the host organisation, attend rostered shifts and travel to the allocated placement site.

Work Placement

Everest Institute will organize Work Placement after consultations and formal agreements with individual students and relevant organizations. It is the responsibility of the student to attend the allocated Work Placement/Professional Experience placement of 80 hours in an aged care, Respite homes, Residential care facilities etc. You may also need to obtain evidence of a Police Check to ensure participation in Fieldwork Placement.
