Flying into and out of Melbourne

Melbourne has four airports: Melbourne Airport (Tullamarine), Avalon Airport, Essendon Airport, and Moorabbin Airport.

Most students will arrive at Melbourne Airport or Avalon Airport. Melbourne Airport (also known as Tullamarine) is the city’s main international airport and is where most international students arrive.

The airport is just over 20 km from Melbourne’s city centre and can be reached easily by bus, car, taxi, or rideshare services.

Airport Pick up

To help make your arrival in Australia more comfortable, Everest Institute (EI) provides airport pick up services on request for international students arriving at Melbourne Airport (also known as Tullamarine Airport). Students are required to contact us by email us at [email protected] upon the booking of their air tickets to request for Airport pick up.

Mental health services

Living and studying in a new country is an exciting experience, but it can also bring challenges. Balancing study, work, and social life – especially while adjusting to a new culture – can sometimes feel overwhelming.

If you’re experiencing stress, anxiety, or emotional difficulties, it’s important to know that you’re not alone. Melbourne offers a wide range of confidential mental health services and support options for students.

Medical and emergency services

When moving to a new country, it’s important to understand how to access medical and emergency services, even if you may never need them.

All international students are required to have Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC), which helps cover the cost of medical care in Australia. Information is available at fact sheet to help you understand what OSHC covers and how to use it.

Emergency Assistance

If your safety is at risk or you are experiencing an emergency:

  • Call Triple Zero (000) immediately

  • Dial 106 if you have a speech or hearing impairment

When calling, remain calm, explain your situation clearly, and provide your exact location. You can request an interpreter if needed.

Students may also wish to download the emergencyplus app, which helps emergency services locate you quickly using your phone’s GPS.
